The Stokes Team Gets It
Trusting someone you’re just meeting with deeply personal information is difficult no matter what, but many LGBTQ+ individuals who work with us have expressed a different kind of concern. It feels like counselors just don’t understand where they’re coming from. Even as we begin to see acceptance, success, and progress, there are those counselors who may not be open to counseling members of the LGBTQ+ community. At Stokes Counseling Services, we’re dedicated to offering compassionate, understanding care for every patient. No matter your gender identification or sexual preferences. We’re all working to lead fulfilling lives and create flourishing families and communities. When you need help or just someone to talk to about the challenges you’re facing (personally, professionally, or emotionally), our team of experts are here for you. We offer LGBTQ+ counseling services in our Naugatuck office, virtually using our telehealth software, and in the home for those families who are participating in our FAM Program.
When Should I Consider Working with Stokes Counseling?
Anytime you want to work through a life change or struggle, one of our counselors will be here to help. If you’re looking specifically for a team who works with the LGBTQ+ community, many of our counselors specialize in this area of counseling, and we take pride in our ability to offer understanding, compassionate care. Still not sure you’re ready to work with us? Take a few moments to consider the following questions:
- Are you looking for a therapist who understands Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer individuals plus their allies, family, and friends (LGBTQ+)?
- Are you worried that you will feel judged?
- Are you struggling with coming out?
- Are you looking for a therapist who can provide a safe place to talk about things you have never discussed with anyone else?
- Are you interested in talking to a therapist about a specific challenge or mental health need, but you’re worried that they won’t understand your perspective?
Did you answer yes to any of the above? We can help! Our team works with LGBTQ+ individuals with these concerns and others with the goal of helping every person lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
What Counseling Services are Available?
We offer individual, family, and couples counseling for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families. We are even happy to extend inclusion in our FAM (Families Are Made) Program for qualifying LGBTQ+ families who are working to integrate and create a more productive home environment.
