What is Online Counseling?
Online counseling is traditional talk therapy conducted via online video conferencing tools. These sessions are much like face-to-face therapy, but they allow us to conduct counseling sessions with people almost anywhere. This is a great option for those who live in remote areas, who can’t take time away from work or school for their counseling sessions, and those who travel frequently.
What Happens During a Session?
During your online counseling session, we can talk about a number of life challenges, set goals for self-improvement or overcoming daily struggles, and help you develop the tools you need to face difficulty head on. These sessions are conducted through to a web-based, HIPPA-compliant video conferencing tool called Doxyme. Doxyme is a web-based service, so you do not need to download a program or software. Your therapist will send you the link to our virtual waiting room where you will be able to see one of our therapists in real time. This will help extend our reach to individuals in all of Connecticut who want to receive counseling support through Stokes Counseling Services.

Does My Insurance Cover Online Counseling Sessions?
Online counseling is still a relatively new treatment option, and many insurers aren’t providing coverage for these services. It’s important to contact your health insurance company prior to starting online counseling to ensure coverage is available. Currently, Medicaid (HUSKY) plans are not covering online counseling. If you’re interested in online counseling, we’ll be happy to help you review your insurance benefits and predetermine coverage, so don’t hesitate to ask our team members.
Am I a Candidate for Online Counseling?
It is important to note that no form of counseling is right for every person. Your first appointment with your therapist will allow you to talk to him/her more about what is going on for you and how we can help.. From there, we can determine if online counseling is the right course of treatment for you. If online counseling is not the best treatment solution, your therapist will offer outside referrals closer to you, so you can get access to more compatible services.
