Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy

Healing & Moving Forward is Possible

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is one of the most innovative and effective therapy approaches used today, but few people have even heard of it. If eye movement desensitization and reprocess therapy has been recommended for you or you’re interested in learning more about this approach, the Stokes Counseling team would be happy to help you. Keep reading to learn more about EMDR therapy with our Naugatuck, CT team, and contact us to find out more.

Why Should I Consider Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy?

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is often referred to simply as EMDR. This unique approach to therapy was developed in order to help those who have survived traumatic events to process the trauma and begin to heal. Today, our clinicians can use the EMDR therapy approach to help individuals who are struggling with a range of concerns, including:

    • Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
    • Anxiety
    • Panic Disorders
    • Eating Disorders

What Happens During EMDR Therapy Sessions?

EMDR is a unique therapy technique that involves following a preset series of steps. This process involves using eye movements and other grounding techniques to help individuals talk through and process difficult or traumatic events. EMDR helps individuals to quickly shift their thinking, emotions, and physical sensations related to negative events. Through repeating the steps of the EMDR process, we begin to replace painful or troubling reactions to these events with positive, healthy responses. One of the most exciting things about EMDR is that individuals who have struggled with trauma, anxiety, and other concerns for years may start to see results after just one EMDR session. Every person is different, but the majority of people achieve their counseling goals using EMDR within just a few months.
